rant

It's been known for a long time that the folks over at one of our local online stores, Nintek, really doesn't like WALAN - but this is just too funny not to share...

Hi There

Just to let you know that I have removed your WALAN promotion thread from the Nindeals forums.

Nindeals & Nintek do not condone any promotion of WALAN on our sites.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt,

No problems, thanks for letting me know about the removal of the thread. If I may enquire however, can you please elaborate on this?

Before posting I checked the Forum Rules and the only thing that would have applied is the Spam of any kind is not permitted rule - though I searched the forums and it seems that prior postings about WALAN and other groups has been okay in the past (and still is for other groups).

Perhaps my wording or message was inappropriate, if you can let me know why this is so - I'll be sure to see it doesn't happen again!

Cheers :)

Hi Will

It's not against the forum rules and normally we would be happy to allow anyone to promote a LAN event (especially a WA one), however in this instance we find it difficult to allow WALAN to promote for it's own benefit on our site, when, WALAN is happy to allow it's own community to portray Nintek in a negative light on your forums.

Hopefully that provides a reasonable explanation?

Hi Matt,

Thanks for elaborating, though I'm not sure I agree with your opinion.

Whilst a number of our members have posted what they have claimed as bad experiences as customers of your business, I do not agree that they are doing so with malice.

We do not censor our member's opinions and encourage free and open discussion as much as possible. If you feel that any of these opinions are unfair or unwarranted, I would invite you to create a forum account with us and discuss the issue with the people in question.

Nor can I see how our forum would differ from such public forums as Whirlpool who do not seem to be barred from here and incidentally also receive specials and free shipping*. I'm not trying to draw a conclusion here, it just seems like a bit of a double standard.

These points aside, I respect your decision and will not attempt to post WALAN related items to these forums in the future.

Should you ever wish to review this policy, or would like to discuss any other business opportunities in the future - please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the following details.

This post was originally called "requirements and objectives", but to be honest - it was sucky and boring... Here's attempt number two...

You shit me to tears! It's nothing personal, I think you're a great person - but when it comes to dealing with business in the real world, you haven't got a clue. Being a relatively young, full-time programmer - you might wonder how I can make this type of bold and spiteful comment. Stop being so naive and have a think about it.

Your problem isn't that you can pick up and phone and talk to someone, it's your manner - you're arrogant and naive and it shows. But that's okay, because as long as the job gets done - who cares? Right? Wrong.

So many people say that they are committed to doing things properly and at a high level of quality. Unfortunately this is not the case, as often your own disorganisation and lack of discipline leads you to pull everything together at the last minute.

I can't help but be reminded of this passage from a book...

"If you believe a truck is coming toward you, you will jump out of the way. That is belief in the reality of the truck. If you tell people you fear the truck but do nothing to get out of the way, that is not belief in the truck. Likewise, it is not belief to say God exists and then continue sinning and hoarding your wealth while innocent people die of starvation. When belief does not control your most important decisions, it is not belief in the underlying reality, it is belief in the usefulness of believing." -- Scott Adams, God's Debris (read online)

If you were truly committed to do something properly, you'd take care and plan these things through - you'd be able to work through any problems and come out ahead of time with the finished product.

Saying something like "I ran out of time", "It was X, Y and Z's fault", or "It couldn't be done" is an excuse. There might be some truth behind what you're saying, but nothing that could not be addressed and resolved.

Does this type of behaviour sound familiar to you? It sure as hell does to me. I get it at work, my team at WALAN and others. People who are otherwise a delight to be around become truly insufferable hypocrites who couldn't take ownership to save their lives.

ARGH!!!

Okay so I'm going to rage on here, because I don't want to waste anyone's time and if you're here reading this - you can't possibly have anything better to do. So excuse me while I scream and rage to y'all...

So... In case you're not aware, I still live at home with my mother. I love her dearly, however she's the most frustrating person to live with. I can deal with them all except for two things...

What's really riding my goat currently is the way that she goes prying through my things. I'm not talking about a quick shufty at whatever's on my desk, but rather a full on search through anything and everything.

I used to think I was over-dramatising, but it's more and more obvious to me in the last year or so that there's no reason for it. I've tried asking her not to, but she claims she doesn't do it - or that she's doing something else.

Anyway, it turns out that a while back at one of our local IGDA events I won this silly USB Camera, conveniently located inside a plushy dog. For shits and giggles I thought I'd set it up on my desk and see what really goes on...

It's only been a day and there's been quite a few things, some infuriating and others funny - but I'll keep y'all posted as to how it goes...

Also stay tuned for my hunt for a housemate to move out with...
